  • LEARN HOW THE MIND WORKS

  • Without going too deeply into the fascinating topic of exactly what or who is the 'mind', for the purposes of explaining how the mind works I am referring to the inner voice we all have and the control it has over the brain.

    In the first session, after the initial consultation and exploration of the goals desired, one of the first things that is explained fully is how the mind works. My philosophy that structures every session is about knowing how the mind works and putting every client in control of the most awesome "bit of kit" on this planet, the brain. Once you understand how it works, you can get it working for you rather than against you, not that it literally works against you but it often feels that way. Not everyone realises it but they are already in charge of the brain and it only takes our instructions anyway, and spends 24 hours a day trying to take care of us both physically and psychologically. The problem lies in the misunderstanding of how we give our instructions to the brain with our mind, I believe that the brain can be considered to be our best friend and the most loyal work force you will ever encounter, and you are the boss.

  • LEARN HOW TO CONTROL THE MIND

  • Once it has been explained fully how the mind works it becomes easy to undertand how to take control of your mind. In order to start that process you need to understand the link between the instructions you have given to your brain and how that has already influenced how you regularly think, feel, react and behave in any given situation. The next step is to become aware of the moments when those instructions are given, then deliberately choose to give your brain a new set of instructions to work with on your behalf. It helps to appreciate that all change is difficult but only for a very short time.

  • WEAKEN THE OLD HABITS

  • We are all creatures of habit and once established we react in an automatic and instinctive way, without even having to think about it. Clearly this is great when we have learned something that is helpful or positive like driving, a complex set of skills that get us from a-to-b without really trying when applying those skills in our car. However, unfortnately it is the same principle with any bad habit we may have learned in the past, and then repeated so often that too also becomes an automatic reaction of thought or behaviour. For every single skill, thought, or behaviour there is a neural network pattern in our brain that represents that. Every time we repeat that action, that neural network gets stronger and stronger until it no longer becomes necessary to consciously think about how to react because it all happens subconsiously. So if we want to change our bad habits we have to create new neural networks and weaken the old ones. Once the concept has been explained fully at Hypnosis Woking, hypnotherapy is used to embed new ones and clients shown how to weaken the old ones until they disappear completely.

    It is worth mentioning that every client at Hypnosis Woking is taught how to do self hypnosis, to not only speed up the success of their current therapeutic goals but to be able to help themselves in the future.
